Summer gatherings · Alcohol-free

Watermelon juice and lemonade form a bright pink summer base, while soda water keeps it from drinking like a thick juice. Mint and lime wheels are garnishes here; the lemonade supplies the measured citrus component.

Ingredients

  • 4.8 cups Watermelon juice

Mix it well

How to make it

  1. Prepare smooth watermelon juice

If making juice from fruit, remove the rind, blend the flesh and strain out seeds and excess pulp. Measure the juice after straining, not the watermelon chunks.

  2. Mix with lemonade

Stir cold watermelon juice and prepared lemonade together. The recipe calls for ready-to-drink lemonade, not frozen concentrate or straight lemon juice.

  3. Refresh and garnish

Add chilled soda water just before serving. Lightly clap a mint sprig between your hands for aroma and add it with lime wheels to the serving glasses. Pour the cooler over ice.

Serving notes

Watermelon juice separates as it sits. Stir the juice base before adding soda water, then use a gentle fold after carbonation is added.

Make ahead

Blend and strain the watermelon, then refrigerate it in a covered container. Combine with lemonade before the party and add the soda water, mint and lime at serving time.
