Thanksgiving · With alcohol
Bourbon Cranberry Punch recipe.
Bourbon brings an oak-and-vanilla note to cranberry and orange, while sparkling water lengthens the mixture without another sweet ingredient. The cranberry juice cocktail provides sweetness, so this recipe does not add syrup. Orange wheels and star anise finish the autumn presentation.

How to make it
Measure the bourbon base
Pour the bourbon, cranberry juice cocktail and orange juice into a pitcher. Stir until the color is even, then chill the mixture before serving.
Set out the garnish
Wash and slice an orange into wheels. If using whole star anise as decoration, leave it in the bowl rather than ladling it into drinking glasses.
Lengthen just before pouring
Add chilled sparkling water and gently fold it into the base. Garnish with the orange wheels, then serve measured portions over ice.
Serving notes
The alcohol estimate assumes 40% ABV bourbon. A higher-proof bottle will make a stronger finished punch even when all volumes stay the same.
Make ahead
Refrigerate the bourbon, cranberry and orange mixture covered. Keep sparkling water separate, and add the orange and star anise when serving so their flavors do not dominate during storage.
